Surface Preparation

  1. Glue all Tongue and Grove (T&G) joints using standard wood glue. Using a damp cloth, wipe off all excess glue as you go.
  2. Sand panels and any joints or areas of the floor that are uneven. Remove all sanding dust with vacuum.
  3. Surface must be dry and free from wax, grease, and dust.

Product Preparation And Color Testing

STIR WELL BEFORE AND OCCASIONALLY DURING USE.

  1. Test stain and polyurethane on a small area of the wood to ensure that the color is what you desire. (Use a leftover piece of tile from your installation as a test sample.)

Application Staining

  1. Apply coats of polyurethane stain as per manufacturer’s recommendations. Do not use water based stains
  2. Use only Minwax or Varathane polyurethane brand stains and finishes.
  3. We recommend doing the staining in one continuous step!

Top Coat

  1. Brush on a THIN, EVEN COAT of polyurethane. Be sure to maintain a wet edge.
  2. Let dry as per approved manufacturer's instructions.  Then between each coating use a fine sand paper block, starting with a grit of 150 for the first coat, 250 for second coat and working up to emery cloth of 600 for every other coat there after.
  3. Vacuum to remove all dust between sanding.
  4. We recommend a minimum of three top coats of polyurethane to get a good surface protection.
  5. You may apply more than three coats if you want more protection for your wood surface.
